My Baby :)

Last June I wanted a puppy so bad. I searched all the local SPCA’s daily until I found the one I knew was for me. Yes, I get animals from the pound and I think everyone should because spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on a dog is crazy when there are sweet and loving pound puppies who need to be adopted and loved.
Quinn was not to big on me getting a dog to begin with, let alone one from the pound. He is one of those people that thinks the dog is not cool unless you drop big bucks on it. He is an idiot what can I say? Anyways, I found this adorable dog named “Rae” at the Currituck SPCA and went to go check him out. He was so sweet and so excited. They told me that when he came in there was something wrong with his right eye but other than that he was ok.
I slept on it and went back the next day without telling anyone and I got him! Quinn was not too happy when I came home that day with a dog but after a while he began to warm up to him. We noticed that he was running into everything and acting weird. A couple days later I took him to the vet and found out that he was blind.

Keller as a “baby”.
Quinn wanted to send him right back to the pound. He said the dog would be nothing but trouble. Did I listen? Hell no! I decided to keep the little rascal and name him Keller (like Helen Keller). Haha. He is an ok dog, I mean he has definately messed up some important and expensive stuff. He chewed up Quinn’s cell phone charger, underwear, socks, pj’s and tees, my uggs, 2 pairs of my rainbows, my baby doll by daddy gave me and he has chewed up the whole front porch. Aside from all the hell this dog has put me through, I still love him.

“Who me? I didn’t do it!!”
I am finally getting a routine down with him and he is learning what’s right and wrong (FINALLY). He holds his bladder in his crate and on the porch, which means no more stinky poop for me to clean when I get home from work. And the distruction of our stuff has slowed down but not come to a hault. He is so cute when I take him to the beach. He knows he can just run and run and not hit anything and he loves it. It was so cute one day he was running and hit the water. He jumped up so high and ran back to me like “what was that mommy!” He loves to play tug-a-war because his rope is his favorite toy. He carries it around like a toddler carries a blankie, its adrorable

*Keller with his blankie, I mean rope*
Quinn still pretty much hates Keller and wishes I would have never got him but I am so glad that I rescued him and I love him even more than I did now that I know he is blind. He is special and he takes a lot of time and I get frustrated…A LOT but he is like my kid and he will always have my heart. If it ever came down to a “It’s me or the dog” thing with Quinn, I think Keller would win

Keller Update (5/14/08): For Christmas, I got a mass amount of UGGS cause I am obsessed, haha. Last weeke Quinn called me freaking out (no surprise) about the Dog. He had gotten out of his crate….again. Thank God the only thing he did was chew the buttons off of my crocheted tall pink UGGS (and thank God that UGGS had extra buttons and sent them to me, so its all good now). But that was the last straw and Keller Baby is now an outdoor pup (unless the weather is bad). His first day outside he was not too happy but he quickly learned how to dig in the sand and have some fun. Now he loves being outside running around in the yard all day. Why didn’t I do this from the beginning? I don’t know…haha.

P.S. If you want a dog, you should really check your local pounds. Pound puppies need loving too

I agree! The pound is the only way to go…they have such wonderful personalities. We need to get our pound puppies together for a play date, so that their mama’s can catch up! Love you
